Mister M & One87 started out 10 years ago, with a very simple concept, which was creating a top quality Drum ‘n’ Bass event. Star Warz blew up to one of the finest Drum ‘n’ Bass concepts the world has ever seen, this due to top quality line ups, great artwork, a top class venue and a heavyweight sound-system.
The world’s greatest Drum ‘n’ Bass artists passed the revue, such as Andy C, Goldie, Noisia, Friction, Marcus Intalex, and many more…but also talented names such as Alix Perez, Commix, Jubei and Klute contributed a great deal to all of this. And off course we don’t forget the mc’s, such as SP:MC, Stamina and Rage, who’ve been hyping up the Star Warz crowd every time … over and over again.
Star Warz had the honour of hosting various label nights and label’s B-days over the years as a Critical Records night, ESP Agency Show Case and 15 Years Metalheadz to name but a few. This time they were chosen to host a night in honour of 15 Years Renegade Hardware.
Creatively born in 1995 Renegade Hardware has without question cemented itself as one of the most pioneering Drum ‘n’ Bass labels in the world. Over the past 15 years of its establishment, Hardware has shaped and shifted the Drum ‘n’ Bass scene in more ways than one: steadily setting standards, pushing boundaries, and associating itself with a darker more cutting edge sound Drum ‘n’ Bass.
With an exceptional ability to spot and nurture raw talent, the label has proved to be a breeding ground and unique platform for producers to develop into established artists. Just a glance at the back catalogue throws out a multitude of household names, from the original legends such as Future Forces, Usual Suspects, Future Cut, Konflict and of course our resident label stalwarts Ink & Loxy to the new skool leaders of Pendulum, Noisia, Friction, Spor and Chase & Status. All these names and many more have been etched not only into Hardware wax, but more importantly in to the minds of the legions of their dedicated fans.
Through Hardware’s evolution one element has remained constant as an ever present theme - the future. Releasing the most forward thinking music is the foundation on which the label is built on and what it will always stand for, not bending to trends or following fashions. Influential, not influenced. Put simply: ’Future beats, for future people.’
And that slogan definitely applies to Star Warz also ! This doesn’t mean however we are forgetting about the past, as it is the past that shapes the future.
A wide array of artists who have collaborated with Renegade Hardware at some time or another will represent the Renegade Hardware brand with head-liner Optical bringing a special set from the Wormhole days. Younger guns S.P.Y. and Rockwell will bring lots of new material, the last one just having been proclaimed Mixmag Player of the Year for 2010. More new material will come from Icicle who had just released his debut album “Under the Ice” on Shogun and Ulterior Motive who are having loads of new releases in the pipe-line for 2011.
True Renegade representatives come in the form of Ink and Loxy. Ink has been a long time resident of Renegade Hardware and for Loxy, Renegade Hardware is a commitment he has upheld to this day, through thick and thin, engraved in the wall of time.
Add to those Transit Mafia from the UK, resident One87 who’s teaming up with MC Mush and local talent M-Zine and not to forget the MC’s on duty : SP:MC and DMC for another unforgettable edition of Star Warz.
